Celebrating Ben & Tara’s Love Story
Set against the stunning backdrop of Old Gore Barn, one of the most sought-after wedding venues in The Cotswolds, Ben and Tara gathered with their closest family and friends to celebrate a relationship that has grown over more than a decade.
From the moment Tara arrived to the acoustic version of The Vow by RuthAnne, the atmosphere was warm, intimate, and filled with anticipation for what would be a ceremony full of meaningful moments and light-hearted surprises.
As a celebrant, my aim from the very beginning was to create a ceremony that truly reflected who Ben and Tara are as a couple — fun-loving, deeply connected, and always each other’s biggest supporters.
From a Glass of Water to Forever
Ben and Tara’s journey together began back in 2012 after years of crossing paths through mutual friends. Fate stepped in one evening when Tara, working in a club, spotted Ben looking slightly worse for wear and offered him a glass of water.
In return, he asked her out for dinner the very next day.
Despite Ben waking up questioning his spontaneous decision (and his memorable outfit of a tank top and open shirt), the date was a success — and Tara clearly saw something special beneath the questionable fashion choice.
By their fourth or fifth date, she had already taken him shopping — a decision that proved to be an excellent long-term investment.
Of course, their story hasn’t been without its humorous mishaps — from a broken car window on an early date to a short-lived attempt at boating in choppy seas during a Greek holiday. Yet these moments perfectly capture their relationship: resilient, supportive, and always able to find laughter in unexpected situations.
Falling in love came naturally. Ben was the first to say, “I love you,” and since that moment, they haven’t stopped.
Building a Life Together
Travel has played a huge role in Ben and Tara’s relationship. Together they’ve explored destinations including Mexico, Bali, the Maldives, and New York — creating friendships and memories wherever they go.
One of their most treasured additions, however, has been their Cavapoo, Kobe, whose daily walks have become cherished time together.
After discussing moving in together while in Bali in 2018, they were unpacking boxes in their first home just two months later. Since then, they have grown side by side, navigating life’s challenges and celebrating milestones as true partners.
In 2023, Ben proposed in Dubai with a ring he had designed himself, thoughtfully abandoning his initial idea involving a tiger mascot when he realised a more intimate proposal would mean far more to Tara.
A Ceremony Designed Around Their Story
The ceremony was intentionally crafted to balance heartfelt emotion with fun and inclusivity.
A beautiful reading of The Wedding Poem by Whitney Hanson captured the essence of their love — not fleeting or dramatic, but steady, evolving, and enduring like a river finding its way home.
Following their personal vows and ring exchange, Ben and Tara added a completely unique twist — a “Witness Lottery.”
Instead of pre-selecting witnesses, two golden tickets were hidden beneath guest chairs, creating a moment of surprise, laughter, and shared celebration as their witnesses were revealed for their certificate signing.
A Bespoke Unity Ritual with a Twist
One of the highlights of the ceremony — and a perfect reflection of their vibrant personalities — was their Limoncello Shot Ceremony.
Unity rituals traditionally symbolise two lives blending together, and Ben and Tara chose a playful, inclusive version that involved every guest raising a glass in celebration of their future together.
Set to A Little Party Never Killed Nobody, the moment was filled with cheers, laughter, and genuine joy — a reminder that weddings can be meaningful while still embracing fun.
A Moment to Pause and Remember
Before the ceremony concluded, I invited Ben and Tara to take a moment to look at one another and fully absorb the significance of the day — something many couples later say becomes one of their most treasured memories.
With rings exchanged, vows spoken, and their love witnessed by those closest to them, they were officially welcomed as Mr & Mrs Maddock, exiting to A Sky Full of Stars — the perfect joyful ending to a beautifully personal ceremony.
